It would be nice if life was a meme. With just the will and the want we could easily say, “I don’t want to feel this way anymore” and the feelings associated with memories would disappear. Or, maybe we could just put those memories away into a far away dusty corner in the attic of our mind and it would be forgotten.
Reality is much more brutal! For every woman who perseveres through the pain of the past and/or their own mind with a face of beautiful strength and courage, there is another side that still hears the Demons. Demons are those ugly voices that whisper in your head when you’re at your most vulnerable. It could be as simple as being tired, hungry, or just a bad day. But, every negative word, every “what if” or “not good enough moment comes flowing back. It’s the Pain that few see.
Crate Finds recently brought this to the forefront with a project spearheaded by Miss Victoria, who asked their Facebook group followers to post photos showing the way each lady looks to the world and the other half depicting the pain they feel. The #painvsbeauty project was left of to each individual’s own personal take on it. Some used words. Others only drew the face of pain they carry inside. Each had a story that made me want to hug them and remind them they are Beauty and those Demons are fucking liars that need to be overridden by every means possible. Everything from Music to Exercise to Nature, Books, Friends, Laughter, or just a few needed zzzzz’s.
The surprise of knowing so many other women feel this way is a combination and relieved surprise at not being alone, but also great sadness in knowing that others know the same pain. The inner pain the goes from dull to sharp.
Life isn’t a meme and many of us will struggle inwardly every single day of our lives. It doesn’t make you less. Every day that you can put on the brave face and go out into the world is another reason I have to admire each and every one of you.
What ways do you deal with the pain you have? Be sure to leave your own comment below or on Being Artemis’s Facebook Page.
